What's Happening:

 

Week one is all groundwork, in the most literal sense. The excavator's been in since day one, cutting trenches for the foundation piles and carving out the footprint of the house along the boundary wall. Underground work is already underway too — the septic tanks and water tanks went in early, buried before anything else could be built on top of them. Off to the side, a small on-site setup has appeared: water containers, gas canisters, a tarp for shade — the crew's makeshift base for the weeks ahead. Bare earth everywhere, piles of orange soil, concrete posts waiting to go in. It doesn't look like much yet, but this is the week that decides where everything else sits.
