Stay at Chan Chao

Chan Chao is warm — not in the temperature sense, but in the way a home is warm. It's Thai culture and tradition in house form, and the word we keep coming back to, maybe too often, is peaceful.

A private space within Laniakea

Chan Chao sits fully self-contained within the Laniakea estate — its own entrance, parking, private terrace, and a walled garden lined with Ficus Korea hedging. Inside, you'll find a comfortable kitchen (full-size fridge, sink, counter space, microwave and kettle — built for a coffee and something easy, not a full cook-up), a fully equipped bathroom, and air conditioning throughout.

We live in the main house right next door, so we're on hand for local tips, tours, or arranging car and bike hire — but Chan Chao itself is entirely yours for the length of your stay.

The teak experience

The whole house is built in traditional teak, and it's part of the experience as much as the walls themselves — the smell, the feel underfoot, even the way it shapes the sound of a room. It's not to everyone's taste, but if you've read this far into a page about a teak house, it probably is to yours.

The terrace

This might be the best seat in the house. It's where we sit most evenings with a cold beer, and where weekend mornings start with coffee. Well-lit at night, with power points for a laptop or a fan — genuinely useable, not just a nice view.

Who it suits

Chan Chao is best suited to couples, solo travellers, and surfers using nearby Memories Beach as a base. The space is compact and built around traditional teak throughout, so it isn't the right fit for young children.
