Week 20

What's Happening:

Week twenty was another one under monsoon skies, with the rain still setting the rhythm and all the work staying indoors. On the surface it doesn't look like much has changed from one week to the next, but that's the nature of varnishing. Each coat goes on slowly, has to be left to cure, and then the next follows. Three coats are building up now, and the teak is starting to show the deeper, richer colour it's had waiting inside it all along.

The glazed doors are looking the part, with glass in and the arched panels catching what little light the rain lets through. Floors and frames are wrapped in protective paper, and pots and brushes sit around the rooms. Outside, the tarps stay up over the lower windows until the weather lets the exterior work begin. The staircase is a good measure of progress: the treads have taken on a warm glow next to the carved balustrade..
