Laniakea
Week 24-25
What's Happening:
On the surface, not much seemed to be happening over these two weeks. The monsoon is doing its worst and progress is slow, so I’ve combined them into one entry. But out of the varnish haze, the details are starting to appear.
First, guttering. It isn’t something I wanted on a house this beautiful, but it turns out to be essential on the west-facing eaves, where the strong coastal winds in Khao Lak drive the rain straight at the timber. Practicality won.
Inside, the paint crew finally got their heads around the “loft” style finish we’ve been asking for, and work has begun on the kitchen walls and the bathroom painting. The raw, textured grey is a world away from the warm teak, and it’s the first real hint of how the kitchen will look. The light fittings have gone up too, permanently this time: a Turkish-style chandelier and a Tiffany-style light, both glowing against the amber ceilings.
We also received a design image of our gate for approval: teak slats on a stainless steel frame. It’s only a render for now, but we think it looks amazing.
